Roland TB-303 synthesizer

A short documentary on the Roland 303 (found at the New Yorker music blog by Sasha Frere-Jones)

Evilnine “Crooked ft. Aesop Rock”

The Orb “Katskills”

New Orb is out. Sounds like they got most of the old crew together. Joy!

The Saturday Knights “45″

Awesome. Horray for fresh hip-hop. Horray for summer driving with the windows rolled down. Horray for the 206.

Nine Inch Nails “Ghosts 13″

NIN has called or fans to make videos for their recent album Ghosts, which I’ve mentioned before. Stretta (who also did the free Monome album) made this video for Ghosts 13, which is a beautiful track. I wish he had written a little about how he made it; I’m quite curious.

Figurine “IMpossible”

[yotube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=lExKkOfARM0]

Figurine is more great synth pop. IMpossible is a fairly sad song, but with happy beats. This is also the first song about instant messaging that I haven’t found completely sickening. Enjoy!

Stereo Total “Plastic”

More happy punky pop with some keyboards underneath. Their other songs range from more punky to much more synth popy. Another find from this week’s Last.fm explorations.

Tiger Baby “Girlfriend”

I had an amazing day on Last.fm for finding new synth pop. I think within 20 minutes I had a whole weeks worth of bands to investigate further. So far I’m quite liking Tiger Baby.

If you use Last.fm, my username there is metajack.

Dei Hamo “We Gon Ride”

Bonus Hip-Hopper:We Gon Ride, a hit from 2004 by the Polynesian rapper Dei Hamo, who lives in New Zealand” (from the Sasha Frere-Jones blog). Not related to the previous post, but fun none the less.

Whats New in Hip-Hop?

I’ve been reading and looking for downloads by Megasoid and related artists in this new indie hip-hop sub-genre. Here is a list of links that you should read if you are interested in bass and glitch heavy dub-house party music. My journey all started with a New Yorker magazine article of all things:

I did find a couple of singles on Ninja Tune that have remixes by Megasoid: Ghislain Poirier and 60Hz. I think more material is coming out soon.

This Sixtoo video has some interesting info:
